Dai6 gaa1 hou2 大家好 (Hello everyone). For those new students that are just reading these updates, fun1 jing4 歡迎 (Welcome!!!)
Click here to go to the translation for Lesson 15
Sorry about the last minute notice but they will be painting the school this weekend so we not be able to hold classes this Saturday. Monday there will be some kind of teachers meeting at the school so there will be no Monday evening classes either.
One of the students emailed me that the Chinese characters appear distorted on my PDF files. If anyone else is experiencing this could you please let me know.
I've received quite a few responses regarding some new classes. Most of them looking for some advanced instruction. Since we don't really have that many 102 classes, I'm considering a 102 class on Monday nights form 7:00-8:30. This would conflict with Hung's Intermediate class, but most people at the 102 level would not be attending Hung's class anyway. We also have the Saturday 1:30-2:30 spot that will be open once Kam finishes her class. I had originally planned to move my Chinese Menu Reading/Writing class back to that time slot but perhaps I should keep the "Menu" class on Mondays from 6:00-7:00, and on Saturdays we would be better off with a 102 class that includes Chinese Characters. This may better serve the needs of the students.
I've also gotten some requests about a Dim Sum class. I do already have all the lessons for such a class, even though I have to convert them into jyut6 ping3 粵拼 This would be a class at 11:00am on Saturdays before my regular classes. We would meet for jam2 caa4 飲茶at different places around Chinatown. The students will learn the names of the different teas, the dim sum, and normal phrases that you might use in a restaurant setting like....
"M4 goi1 siu2 ze2, sai sau gaan hai2 bin1 dou6 aa3?"(Excuse me Miss, where is the restroom?)
唔該 小姐 洗手間喺 邊度呀?
The best part is that you will be learning in a practical setting where you actually get to EAT the lessons!!!
Well ok, not exactly the lessons...but you know what I mean. This class will run anywhere from $10 to $20 per person,(per meal) depending on how much you guys like to eat. Well, I'm still brainstorming, so let me know what you guys want...or more importantly, what you would actually ATTEND!
Remember all of the classes are FREE (any donation appreciated) and any of the classes may be attended at any time. So come on down if you have time. Don't forget to practice your Cantonese and Chinese characters every day.
For those new people who need it, I've posted the current schedule below. Feel free to email or call me with any questions, comments, trivia or babble. Hope to see you all in class.

Translation
I have a friend named Chow. Mr. Chow is a teacher. He has many students, Of his students, some are Chinese and some are American. (Because) Mr. Chow teaches very well, so all of his students really like him.
Mr. Chow is American but his wife is Chinese. Mr's Chow is a very good cook of Chinese food. I really like to eat the Chines food that she cooks.
Mr. and Mrs. Chow have two children. The older one is a boy, and the younger one is a girl. Both of their children are grown ( now). They are both very smart. The older one is now finished with school but the younger one still goes( to school ). The young one is very good at singing. It's great to listen to her sing those songs. I really like to listen to her sing them. The "big one" is really good at speaking Chinese. He's
also able to read Chinese books. That young one now reads Chinese books but is still not yet able to speak Chinese.
