Description


We have a variety of classes in Cantonese designed for different people; from those who just want to brush up, are researching the language, need to learn for work or personal interests, or simply the curious.You are welcome to join the Beginner or Intermediate classes anytime in the semester but an e-mail or phone call in advance is appreciated. The classes are free as all the teachers are contributing their time, knowledge, and energy there is a suggested donation of $5 to help defray the costs of travel and teaching supplies as well as the expansion of the program. This is possibly the LARGEST collection of Cantonese learning classes outside of China proper and one we hope will continue to grow!

Ask security guards at front desk for room number as they change periodically. No pre-registration is necessary for any of the free classes. Please bring pen and a notebook or binder. Laptops are optional. Check with your teacher about tape recorders.

Directions


By Subway: Take the B, or D to the Grand Street station. Take any exit, then walk Left one block down Grand Street to Forsythe Street. Go Right one block down Forsythe Street to the Hester Street entrance.

By Car: Coming off the Manhattan Bridge, make a right onto Canal Street. If coming from elsewhere, drive down Canal Street until at Eldridge Street where you can park. Classes are a block to the left on Hester Street.

Description: If you've ever wanted to read the Chinese portion of restaurant menus or happened to be curious about reading and writing in Chinese, this class will tell you what you always wanted to know! Description: A new class expanded for American-born Chinese and anyone else who knows basic Cantonese but want some more "catch-up" before learning intermediate vocabulary, Kit's new offering is meant to complement our growing array of Cantonese curriculum. Meetings will take place twice a month on the first and third Saturdays of the month.

Description: Combining both written Chinese and spoken Cantonese, Hung guides you on the way to mastering the language fully. Lessons are arranged by different themes and topics in Cantonese with a rich background in the language's roots. Description: Cantonese isn't all that we teach. Now for an opposite change of pace, we are offering an ESL (English as a Second Language) class free of charge! If you know a family, friend, or co-worker who needs to or wants to learn English, please feel free to tell them about this free weekend opportunity as the teacher also speaks Cantonese!
