We've made many changes to our Winter 2009 Class Schedule as we expand and realign our offerings to better serve you and all those who wish to learn Cantonese and Toisanese. The bulk of these changes will take place with our Saturday classes as our Monday and Wednesday classes will retain their normal schedules.
Tony's Yum Cha Part One: 11:00 AM Saturday New! Indulge in real Chinese dim sum (點心) at an authentic Chinatown restaurant as you learn firsthand about Cantonese cuisine. Part of our new food-oriented curriculum, you can expect to sample Cantonese cuisine and traditional tea in a relaxed social setting.
NOTE: If you'd like to join this class, please contact Tony and that while the class is free, the food will be paid for family style averaging $15-$20 per person. Bring money! =)
Tony's Reading/Writing Yum Cha Class (Part Two): 12:15 PM - 1:00 PM Saturday Our class on learning all about Chinese restaurant menus expands now to the art of dim sum/yum cha and even some character writing. This immensely practical class continues at a new earlier time to accompany our new "hands-on" Yum Cha class!
David's Toisanese 101 Class: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Saturday
Returns Soon! Taking Signups NOW!
One of the only classes to cover this rich and historic dialect in the United States, this class is returning in a new and more convenient time. Expect a more comprehensive and advanced treatment of Toisanese in the term to come.
Violet's Food Terminology Class: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM Saturday New! This long-running class has rejoined our program from the Cantonese Meetup Group and features an offering of vocabulary and curriculum as rich as its subject matter. The next part of this course will next cover one of the favorite pastimes in Chinatown - its Food! Food terms include Grocery Items, and Bakery terms. (Although we will have a few introductory tidbits here and there involving general greetings / music of the language / and other goodies!)
Tony's Cantonese 101 Class: 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM Saturday An immensely popular and effective course, Cantonese 101 is your gateway to the most used and storied Chinese dialect and all its heritage both here and in China. At a new time and shorter for convenience, expect more of the same great lessons.
Tony's ESL Class: 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM Saturday Our only non-Chinese class, this is our way of further serving the Chinese community that has given so much. A free English as a Second Language course, it is open to any members of the community who want to learn English for any reason.
Hung's Intermediate Cantonese 301 Class: 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM Saturday Our most advanced Cantonese class, Hung's course remains at the same time slot but has even more helpful vocabulary and insight for those who wish to continue their education in Cantonese.
