The performances by Ming Chee Sing Chinese Opera troupe will celebrate the traditional art form of Cantonese opera with a captivating selection of various pieces of works from famous plays which will bring New York audience on a fascinating journey of popular and romantic Chinese legends. The drama in any opera comes from the elaborate and flamboyant costumes, exquisite wigs and colorful make-up worn by the actors. This discussion/workshop will allow audiences to get fully immersed in Cantonese opera and participants will be introduced to its symbolism, connotations, costumes, movements and sign languages. Three separate programs will be held in partnership with The Regional Plan Association, The New School's India China Institute and The Tishman Environment and Design Center. In addition to the symposium, receptions will be held offering speakers and guests an opportunity to meet their professional counterparts.
